Abstract

Globalization has become a seemingly unstoppable force over recent decades and, in its wake, global notions of social justice have developed in response to its negative aspects. Neo-liberal economic policies have been a key element in the wider process of globalization, and these policies have had a profound impact on welfare provision and the shape of social work practice. Arising dissatisfaction among users of welfare and social work services is fuelling the search for a new, more radical social work that is firmly rooted in principles of social justice.Globalisation, Global Justice and Soci

Abstract

In the present study, our attention turned to understanding the objective and subjective conditions of the work process of social workers in social entities in the municipality of Bebedouro. Professional action has already been the object of analysis in several studies, however, less often it seeks to investigate the real working conditions that the Social Worker encounters in his professional routine. Our analysis seeks to understand the work process of Social Work in social entities in order to discard a priori, both the fatalistic tendency that considers the professional space with insurmountable limits, and the messianic tendency that considers the social worker to be an independent professional, with almost autonomy to develop proposals that transform reality, disregarding the true professional insertion in the concrete reality. The two approaches, both fatalistic and messianic, do not reveal social historicity from the realization of men, the particularities of the profession and the elements that make it unique in a given historical moment and in each work process. We then try to answer: who are the professionals who are in the social entities? What are the objective and subjective conditions of professional action in this workspace? What is revealed behind everyday life, what is significant beyond everyday repetition? Our research universe was made up of all social entities regularly registered with the Municipal Council of Social Assistance - CMAS in 2008.

Abstract

All of us, as Canadians, are touched throughout our lives by some aspect of social welfare, either as recipients, donors, or taxpayers. But despite the importance of the social network in our country, there has been no single source of information about this critical component of our society. Even professionals in the field of social work or social services have not had a comprehensive volume addressing the myriad features of this critical societal structure. The Encyclopedia of Canadian Social Work fills this need. Over five hundred topics important to Canadian social work
